During a eye exam, Dr. Barriga will assess much more than your visual acuity  Annual wellness refractive exams will screen for retinal diseases and provide an updated spectacle Rx.

A detailed evaluation of the health of your retina and other parts of the eye that can be affected by diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and dry eye syndrome.

Rather have contacts? Come in for a contact lens fitting, Dr. Barriga will checking your eyes to decide what strength you need, and what type of contact lens you'll need. There are various types of contacts, some for sensitive eyes, some for astigmatism, and even some for those who need bifocals. You can even select colored contact lenses. Once you and Dr. Barriga decide what type of contact is best for you. She will determine the strength you'll need. You will receive full training on insertion, removal and care. 

 Your retina (located in the back of your eye) is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases (for example, stroke, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes) can also be seen in the retina. Early signs of these conditions can show on your retina long before you notice any changes to your vision or feel pain. While eye exams generally include a look at the front of the eye to evaluate health and prescription changes, a thorough screening of the retina is critical to verify that your eye is healthy.
